How to Convert an Image Between PNG, JPEG and WEBP for Free

Not every image format works everywhere — a website might reject a PNG that's too large, or you might need a lossless format for editing instead of a compressed JPEG. Our free Image Format Converter converts between PNG, JPEG, and WEBP directly in your browser using the Canvas API.

How to Use It

When to Use Each Format

1. PNG — best for logos, screenshots, and anything needing transparency or lossless quality.
2. JPEG — best for photos where a smaller file size matters more than pixel-perfect quality.
3. WEBP — usually the smallest file size at a given quality level; a great default for web use if your platform supports it.

Tips

If your image has transparent areas and you convert it to JPEG, the transparency will be filled in with white, since JPEG doesn't support it — use PNG or WEBP instead if you need to keep it. Start with a quality setting around 80–85% for JPEG or WEBP; it's usually indistinguishable from full quality while noticeably shrinking the file size.
